Trash To Miniature Dollhouse Treasures
Updated December 2009

This is one of my favorite aspects of miniatures, I love to come across websites that have this kind of information on them. One of my favorite places on the net is Wanna In El Paso's "Cheap Thrills".

Miniature "Lettuce"

Gallery Glass and Artificial Snow

A  tip from an online friend and blogger, De from De-Lightful Minis; Use artificial plastic snow mixed with a little green gallery glass to make "lettuce" for mini salads.

Miniature Salad

Miniature Lobster

The lobster is a fishing lure painted with red paint and the lettuce is torn floral tape.

Miniature "Ceramic" Ashtray

From an old earing to a miniature ceramic ashtray.

Miniature Pitcher of Beer

I made this for my friend's Pub. It's made from glue sticks, amber glass paint and wax for the foam.

Miniature Plants for Dollhouse

The greenery came from a Christmas decoration that was being thrown out, a small pot, mini hold and coffee grounds for dirt.

Miniature Window Shade

Simple shade made from folded Vellum, skinny sticks and a link from a small chain.

Using pizza tables for miniature dollhouse

There are many uses for these little tables. A member of a group I belong to, made chairs out of them for a wedding scene and here's a link to a tutorial for a great office chair made from these little gems.

Straws for miniature dollhouse

I save all the straws I can, it's easy to turn them into glasses or containers by cutting them to different lengths, stove pipes
and plumbing pipes (the bendy straws work good) and the little straws from juice boxes for the top of "oil lamps". I have also used them to cut "cookies" from polymer clay.

Miniature Relish Tray
Make a mini relish tray from the lid to a "to go" container of Ranch dressing.

Miniature Mirror

A button and a small round mirror.

Buttons for miniature dollhouse

Buttons make great mini plates, bases, picture frames, and mirrors to name a few.

Miniature Drawer Pulls

I think these will make nice drawer pulls. I just popped the silver piece out of the center of a button.

Miniature "glass bowls" & more

Suctions cups can be used as bowls, serving dishes, and tops to torche' lamps. You can leave the bottom on or gently cut it off with a razor knife.

Minature Plastic Tumblers

Tops to Aileens glue and other small caps make great plastic tumblers.

Miniature Hat Stand

A golf tee, button and bead make a great hat stand.

Miniature Ice

I cut up the left over suction cup bottoms into cubes of ice.

Miniature Fireplace Screen

Made from an old chair, brass tubing and jewlery findings.

Miniature Dollhouse Suitcase

A plastic gum container, a piece of leather and some small cording.

Miniature Candy Dish

An old eraser and a suction cup make a great dish of candy.

Miniature Doily

Cut the center out of a small plastic  doily from the dollar store and you have a mini doily for your table.

Miniature Wastepaper Basket or Lampshade

A coffee creamer container and the rest of the dollar store doily for trim and you have a cute wastebasket. You can also use it for a lamp shade.

Miniature Shower Curtain

An old piece of plastic table cloth, a wood dowel and a couple of beads. You can also make small holes and use the chain links from an old necklace for shower curtain hooks.

Miniature Containers

I save the bottle tops to everything. Use for trash cans, vases, lamp shades, the list goes on and on.

Miniature Plates

The plastic piece from the inside of soda bottles make nice plates.

Miniature Covered Dish

Part of a container from a gumball machine, a button and a small bead glued to the top.

Baking Pans for dollhouse

Save the metal tins from eyeshadow containers for baking tins.

Miniature Table Cloth

Use a coffe filter for a table cloth. Glue on some trim to make it fancy!

Miniature Chair

This chair was made from the little pieces punched out from the windows. The legs were made from fimo and the little pillow is a flower from an old sweater.

Miniature Vanity Mirror

Small mirror glued to a cufflink.
