Miniature Edgar Allan Poe Clock Scence
|
My oldest daughter gave me a clock for Christmas, and by mid-January I had turned the base into a Poe-inspired miniature scene.
I had a lot of fun designing this piece and figuring out how to bring his work into miniature form. A black cat sits in the shadows (The Black Cat), a heart rests under glass (The Tell-Tale Heart), and a raven’s presence can be felt (The Raven). His desk is scattered with writings, and I added his portrait and a photo of his wife to ground the scene in his life. The jars, spoons, sugar cubes, and bottles hint at his more notorious habits. It was a lot of fun to build — a mix of dark details, literary nods, and little Gothic touches that made the whole project come together. |
